On November 17 of this year will be celebrated 110th anniversary of Latif Karimov – the founder of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, prominent scientist and carpet artist, teacher, the author of fundamental scientific work “Azerbaijan Carpet”.
In the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum was organized a series of events dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Latif Karimov. On June 2-3 was held the 1st International Symposium “Common Language of the Turkic World – Patterns”, on June 2-12 the exhibition “Engraved Beauty on Metal” consisted of examples of decorative-applied art of Mubariz Akbarov and sketches of Latif Karimov.
From November 17, 2016 to January 18, 2017 will be held the exhibition within the framework of joint cooperation of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum and the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum. At the exhibition is planned to display the author sketches of Latif Karimov, carpets and carpet items woven on the basis of the sketches, photographs and documents preserved in personal archive. For the exhibition will be presented 7 carpets and 4 carpet items from the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum.
Along with this, on November 17 will be a presentation of the book of “Works of Latif Karimov from the Collection of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum”. In the book will be published sketches and carpets of Latif Karimov preserved in the museum, photographs, documents and letters from the personal archive of Karimov’s family, which are not displayed before.
On November 16-18, 2016, with the organizational support of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum and the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum, as well as with the support of the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation is planned to hold a round table entitled “The Art of Carpet-Weaving”. The round table will be attended by delegations from the leading museums of Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Here will be discussed issues on conservation, restoration and exhibition of the carpets and fabrics.
