The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Office in Azerbaijan held an Orientation Meeting for the participants of the 2020th KOICA Master’s Degree Scholarship Program at KOICA Azerbaijan Office on July 30, 2020.
The KOICA Scholarship Programme is one of the prestigious fully-funded scholarship schemes provided by the Government of the Republic of Korea to KOICA’s partner countries.
The event started with congratulatory speech from Ms. Park Kumok, the Country Director of the KOICA Azerbaijan Office, in which she welcomed the participants and stated that as the participants of KOICA Scholarship Program get closely familiar with the customs, traditions and achievements of Korea, I am confident that they will play an important role in strengthening respective areas in Azerbaijan and the relationships between our countries.
This year 3 governmental officials from Azerbaijan Republic were awarded with the KOICA Scholarship. They will study in various courses ranging from Urban and Regional Development, Response to Climate Change and Gender & Development in prominent Korean Universities like Seoul National University, Hallym University and University of Seoul. The scholarship programs are quite competitive as candidates compete on a global basis from the 44 overseas KOICA Offices.
During the Orientation, KOICA Azerbaijan Office shared details of the scholarship programme, departure and arrival logistics, KOICA Regulations, as well as, cultural differences and similarities between Azerbaijan and Korea.
Due to the ongoing situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the mandatory order prohibiting gatherings over five people, three KOICA Master Program Alumni Mr. Vugar Jabbarov and Ms. Parvana Babayeva, who are the graduates of Ajou University Master's Degree Program in Energy Science and Police and Ms. Vafa Jamalova graduate of Kangwon National University on Master's Degree Program in Agricultural Economics, joined the Orientation in a virtual format. They briefed the newly awarded fellows on the experience they had in Korean universities, Korea’s culture and lifestyle and had a casual Q&A time with them.
In their turn, the selected scholars showed their gratitude towards the KOICA and the Korean government, and promised to bring social and policy reforms to Azerbaijan after gaining experience and studying in Korea.
For information, the KOICA supports a variety of fellowship programs for Human Resource Development (HRD), the ones mainly offered to Azerbaijan are Multi-Country Programs, Country-Specific Programs and Scholarship Programs. Approximately 763 officials have participated in the KOICA HRD Programs up to date
