On December 4, 2020, online public discussion on "The role of responsible fatherhood in eliminating violence against women and girls" organized by the National Assembly of the Youth organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held.
At the public discussion, which was attended by about 100 participants, including young fathers, a number of well-known activists who have made significant achievements in their public activities discussed the topic. The speakers - Aliyar Huseynov, Sevinj Huseynova, Oktay Namazov and Vafa Ali shared their experiences on the role of men, especially fathers, in the fight against gender-based violence.
The main purpose of the public meeting which was held within the project ‘MY FATHER LOVES ME - Raising Awareness of Importance of Responsible Fatherhood’ was to stimulate the role of young fathers in the issue of gender inequality within the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence”.
16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.
The project ‘MY FATHER LOVES ME - Raising Awareness of Importance of Responsible Fatherhood’ is funded by UN Women and UNFPA Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, as well as the European Union's EU4GenderEquality: Together Against Gender-Based Stereotypes and Violence.
The meeting ended with discussion of the views and suggestions of the participants.
