On July 8, the Historic-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve The Kazan Kremlin opened its doors to all-comers to visit the exhibition Carpet Art. Evolution of Meanings.
Dr Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum delivered a lecture and arranged a curatorial tour on the first day of the exhibition. Dr Melikova told the visitors about the establishment of the first Carpet Museum in the world, its activities, and collections.
Following, she spoke of the concept of the exhibition, the principles of exhibits selection, and its main goals. Shirin Melikova gave detailed information on the history of the classical carpet patterns woven in the late 19th - early 20th centuries, the semantics of ornaments, colors, and technical solutions. She emphasized that Azerbaijan carpet weaving flourishes and is constantly enriched with new trends, without losing its ancient traditions.
Dr Melikova highlighted original works by contemporary artist Chingiz Babayev that do not distort the traditions of Azerbaijan carpet weaving, as well as their philosophical meanings.
As part of the exhibition, on July 10 and 11 at 12:00, the Kazan Kremlin will organize a family program.
Exhibition runs until September 5.
