Rare footages of Turkish soldiers who escaped from Nargin on AzTV – FOR THE FIRST TIME after 100 years +VİDEO

The rare archival footages of the Turkish soldiers, who were taken hostage in
Sarigamish and brought to the Boyuk Zira (Nargin) island and later escaped, will be
demonstrated on AzTV.

According to AzTV’s Social Media and PR Department, the footages were taken at the Parade organized in Baku in 1919.

Thus, the Caucasian Islamic Army, that entered Baku on September 15, 1918, rescued the hostages who were kept on the Nargin island. However, the soldiers, who escaped, did not return to Anadolu; they started fighting within the Caucasian Islamic Army. In 1919, on the occasion of the first anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, a large military parade was held in Baku on May 28. Those soldiers also took part in the Parade.

The footages were taken by director Esfir Shub and were included in the short documentary entitled “Celebration” prepared in connection with the anniversary of  Azerbaijan’s independence. The film reflects the celebration of the first anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
The crew of Azerbaijan Television’s “In the footsteps of history” project appealed to the European Documentary Studio in order to obtain the rare archival footages. Theobtained footages will be demonstrated to the wider public through the “In the footsteps of history” project on AzTV 102 years later.
The program will go on air on September 15 at 18:30 on the anniversary of the liberation of Baku from the Armenian-Dashnak and Bolshevik forces.
