The World’s largest DJ Competition Crowns a New Champion in Baku

From the 1st to 6th of September, tropical Baku Azerbaijan welcomed 19 of the world’s top DJs for the Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals, the world’s largest DJ competition, to battle it out in front of thousands of fans and a judging panel of DJ heavyweights including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Z-Trip, KraftyKuts, Shortkut, and SkratchBastid.

BAKU (AZE) - The DJ'ing world set its sites on the unlikely Baku, Azerbaijan, for 6 nights of heated battle and rare one-off special performances from the best in the business. In the end, there can only be one king, and this year that turned out to be a returning competitor, and last year's third place finisher, Eskei83 from Germany. Seeking vengeance upon his return this year, Eskei83 came to the tables like a man possessed with 2 absolutely flawless routines that could not be beaten.

Outside of the competitions itself, the fans were treated to headline performances by some of the world’s most renown DJs in the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff and KraftyKuts, and two rare appearances from veteran California crew The Invisible SkratchPiklz in some of the most scenic and historic venues Baku had to offer. Nestled on the coast of the Caspian Sea, the idyllic setting allowed the competitors to take in the sites of this lesser known destination and all it had to offer from its gracious hosts. Truly a developing world class city.

As the stage was set for the closing battle at the Crystal Hall the 6 finalists, DJ Flip (Ireland), DJ Twist (Azerbaijan), DJ Trayze (USA), Cinara (Brazil), Eskei83 (Germany) and Carlo Atendido (Philippines) all put together the best of what they had to the esteemed judges in 15 min sets. In the end, Eskei83 came in with a chip on his shoulder and too much fire power for his foes. A mix of extremely technical precision manoeuvres, impeccable song selection, and enough bravado to back it all up, he truly embodied what it takes to be crowned Champion of the Red Bull Thre3Style World DJ Championships.

First the World Cup, and now Thre3Style, way to go Germany!

Red Bull Thre3Style began as an underground experiment seven years ago in Canada. In 2010, the event went global for the first time, effectively changing the face of modern DJ battles by pitting ten countries' top DJs against each other. Since then, in four short years, Red Bull Thre3Style has grown to what is now the largest DJ competition on Earth.
It pits the world's best DJs in a competition that values technical skill as much as the ability to thrill a dancefloor. Competitors are judged on the dual platforms of technical ability and crowd reaction, and are given just 15 minutes each to prove that they're the best in the room. Judges work to a strict criteria that also marks DJs on their originality in song choices, confidence performing and mixing prowess.
