An International Cultural Diplomacy Forum was held at Nakhchivan State University. The event took place in partnership with Nakhchivan State University, under the auspices of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, organized by the Erzurum Diplomacy Research Center Association, and with the participation of the Consulate General of Türkiye in Nakhchivan, the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kars, and the Yunus Emre Institute.

AZpress.AZ reports that prior to the event, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, followed by the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, Ergün Engin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies of Türkiye, emphasized that Azerbaijan and Türkiye share a common culture, history, and geography. Ergün Engin noted that Nakhchivan State University is one of the important higher education institutions where Turkish students study, and drew attention to the importance of academic cooperation and student-faculty exchange between universities.

In his speech, Rector of Nakhchivan State University Elbrus Isayev emphasized that the historical and cultural bonds between Azerbaijan and Türkiye are further strengthened through cooperation in education. The Rector highlighted the expansion of NSU's international relations, particularly the development of cooperation with prestigious Turkish higher education institutions. He stated that the regular involvement of Turkish professors in the teaching process at the university makes a significant contribution to the development of students' knowledge and skills and the sharing of academic experience. Emphasizing that the participation of Azerbaijani students and faculty in mobility programs creates conditions for strengthening scientific and educational ties between universities, the Rector also noted the importance of such forums in terms of preserving and promoting shared cultural heritage.

Ayşe Şengül Yıldırım, Vice Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Nakhchivan, stated that the forum is not only a platform for exchanging ideas, but also the beginning of new friendships and cultural projects. Ayşe Şengül Yıldırım expressed her confidence that the event will contribute to strengthening cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, promoting Nakhchivan's role in the Turkic world more broadly, and transferring shared historical memory and cultural heritage to future generations.

The forum continued with discussions across three main panels. The panels discussed issues of public diplomacy, media and communication, historical memory, geocultural relations, preservation of intangible cultural heritage, shared identity, cultural belonging, and the representation of culture in the digital age.

Speakers during the discussions included Ali Rıza Karabağ, Head of the Turkish Culture and Art Department at the Yunus Emre Institute; Nazlı Yaqubova, lecturer at the Department of International Relations at Nakhchivan State University; Professor Zakir Avşar of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University; Professor İbrahim Ethem Atnur of the Department of Republic History at the National Defense University of Türkiye, and other participants.

As part of the forum, performances of traditional Turkish theater, such as "Orta oyunu" and "Karagöz and Hacivat", were presented. It should be noted that the "Karagöz and Hacivat" performance was staged in Nakhchivan for the first time.
