Our wrestler Arsney Djioyev in the World Championship final
The World Championship held among male and female wrestlers at the "Barys Arena" in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, with the participation of Azerbaijani representatives, continues. On the seventh day of the tournament, freestyle wrestlers in the 61, 70, 86, and 125 kg weight categories joined the competition. In these weight classes, our country was represented by Nureddin Novruzov, Kanan Heybatov, Arsney Djioyev, and 2-time European champion and two-time World runner-up Giorgi Meshvildishvili, respectively.
Among our quartet, Djioyev wrestled more confidently and reached the final. Having defeated representatives of Bahrain at the start, followed by India, Greece, and Georgia in the semifinals, Djioyev will face American Kyle Dake, a 2-time Olympic medalist and 4-time World champion, in the decisive final on October 31.
Another representative of ours - Meshvildishvili - lost to Russian representative Abdulla Kurbanov in the semifinals, losing his chance for the championship title. He will compete in the bronze medal match on October 31.
Unfortunately, our compatriots who entered the competition on the same day - Nureddin Novruzov and Kanan Heybatov - bowed out early.
