Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of "Absheron" Battery Energy Storage Center

On March 25, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of the "Absheron" Battery Energy Storage Center of "AzerEnergy" Open Joint Stock Company (ASC).

Chairman of the Board of Directors of "AzerEnergy" OJSC Baba Rzayev informed the head of state about the "Absheron" Battery Energy Storage Center.

Let us note that Azerbaijan is entering a new stage of development in the field of energy. According to the order of President Ilham Aliyev, large energy storage centers with a total capacity of 250 MW and an energy capacity of 500 MW/h were created in two main substations - 500 kV "Absheron" and 220 kV "Aghdash" substations by "AzerEnergy" OJSC with 100 percent internal funding. The establishment of such centers on such a scale is the first not only in Azerbaijan, but in the CIS region in general.

In the framework of the project, 50 accumulator batteries and 13 inverter containers were installed in the territory of "Absheron" Battery Energy Storage Center. Research conducted by international consulting companies (US TETRA Tech and Turkey's EPRA) showed that it is necessary to create such battery systems in order to safely connect about 1850 MW of renewable energy sources to the energy system in Azerbaijan.

Battery Energy Storage Center stands out for its flexibility. So they can be fully charged or discharged within 2 hours. Surplus energy, including energy produced during sunny hours, is collected here and automatically fed into the grid during peak hours - when energy demand increases. In short, these systems collect and store energy, and direct it to use when necessary.

The implementation of such a Center gives many advantages to the energy network. For example, with a SCADA system, the power system is monitored in real-time, grid stability, including frequency and voltage, is maintained, sudden power failures are automatically adjusted, the impact of accidents is reduced, and the system becomes more reliable. In addition, the demand for electricity during peak hours is more easily met, the impact of interruptions in solar and wind energy is reduced, and it is possible to restore the energy system from scratch. At the same time, load changes during sunset hours are more easily managed.

In short, the establishment of the Battery Energy Storage Center makes Azerbaijan's energy system more modern, flexible and stable. Especially in an era of increasing solar and wind energy, such storage systems are considered the main part of the energy model of the future.

At the "Absheron" Battery Energy Storage Center, a special center has been created to manage these systems.

A modern administration building has been built on the territory, extensive improvement and greening works have been carried out.

The head of our state was also informed about the integration of renewable energy sources into the energy system and the digital transformation of the energy system.

It was announced that in the near future, large-scale renewable energy sources will be integrated into the energy system, and in 2028, more than 2100 MW of green energy will already be in the network.

Taking all of this into account, the main stage of the work within the framework of the "AZURE" project, which was carried out to integrate the 2 GW of renewable energy sources built in Azerbaijan into the energy system in a sustainable and safe manner, to increase the share of green energy in the energy supply of Baku, including the Alat Free Economic Zone, and to turn the 500/330 kV "Navahi Green Energy" node into one of the main node substations by directly fully connecting it with the country's energy system, is already underway. concluded.

As part of the project, 500 kV transmission lines were built to the Navahi substation at a distance of 65 kilometers from the Absheron substation, and 330 kV transmission lines were built at a total distance of 181 kilometers from the Banke and Bilasuvar solar power plants. In perspective, 235 kilometers of 500 kV transmission lines from Mingachevir and 103 kilometers of 330 kV transmission lines from Gobu, Alat and Gobustan are planned to be built to the "Navahi" substation.

Over the past 7 years, 4,700 kilometers of fiber-optic cable infrastructure has been created, and a central SCADA system covering more than 550 energy facilities has been built.

On-line diagnostic technologies (AGC, WAMS/WACS), artificial intelligence accident prediction and diagnostic systems are applied in the energy system. A high-precision forecasting system for solar and wind farms is being developed.

In the internal structure of "AzerEnergy" OJSC, a Digital Management Department was established for the purpose of fully automated management of the energy system.

Electricity consumption is predicted to increase by about 17 percent by 2032. By that time, 8 GW of BOEM power will be created.

Exporting green energy to European markets through the Black Sea cable, regional energy corridors and other projects is the main goal. The Black Sea cable will have 1300 MW of green energy transmission.

Our head of state pressed the button announcing the opening of the "Absheron" Battery Energy Storage Center.
