Change in teachers' salaries – EXPERT EXPLAINS DETAILS

Salaries of some teachers in our country will increase. Deputy Vugar Bayramov said this during the discussion of the draft law on amending the Labor Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Law "On Education" at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis held today.

The deputy noted that according to the proposed changes to Article 67-2 of the Labor Code, all students working in art schools will be involved in certification exams:

"According to that article, the participation of persons aged 60 and older in certification is voluntary, and persons who have passed certification at least three times are not involved in certification.

I would suggest that the list of our citizens who are not involved in certification under that article be reviewed and expanded. According to the project we are discussing, it would be appropriate to exempt the winners of international competitions in the art sector from certification. At the same time, in Article 67 of the Code, I would suggest that persons who have been certified at least 2 times, not 3 times, should not be involved in certification. Let's agree that successfully passing certification twice is enough to provide quality education in an educational institution. There is no special need for those persons to be involved in certification again for the 3rd time.

On the other hand, according to the current rules, the salary of those who scored 30-50 points in the exam phase increases by 10.0, and the salaries of those who scored 51-60 points increase by 35.0. Taking into account that more educators will be involved in certification, it is appropriate to change these rules. It would be appropriate to increase the salaries of those who scored more than 80 percent, not 51 points, in the last step, i.e. 35 percent. In this case, teachers with 48 and more points will have salary increases of 35 phases, which may allow a closer evaluation of labor in the said sector. At present, the salary increase for teachers with 48-51 points is not 35, but 10 percent. According to the current rules, a teacher who scores 83 percent, i.e. 50 points, gets a 10 percent salary increase, and a teacher who scores just 1 point more gets a 35 percent salary increase. In accordance with international evaluation standards, it is appropriate to increase the salaries of those who show more than 80 percent, not 10 percent, but 35 percent".

Sharing his views on the proposed change, education expert Sabuhi Abdullayev said that this is an important step in terms of stimulating teachers and improving quality in the education system of Azerbaijan.
